The Best Job in the World: How Evolving Along With Your Clients Changes Both You and Them

I remember the first time I felt depressed as an adult. I had learned so much from my clients at that point I knew what it was. I took hope from their resilience, and my empathy became richer and more astute. I also remember my early lessons, hard earned…. The practice of psychotherapy is relational, in a deep, intimate and complicated way. To practice it well, we must have humility and vulnerability. And engaging with our clients from this place can result in our own exponential growth and evolution.

Self-Compassion Without a “Self”

Research shows that the ability to have self-compassion when you are suffering leads to deeper life satisfaction, improved physical health and greater resilience in the face of trauma or tragedy. But having compassion for yourself sometimes feels forced, inauthentic, or even perilous. In this program, we will use the Focus In and Turn Back (See, Hear, Feel Self) techniques to disentangle from and de-identify with our usual sense of Self. From this place, compassion often arises spontaneously.

This is a series of guided meditations, with Q and A.

April 10, Presented through Shinzen Young’s Home Practice Program. Click HERE for more info.

Obstacle to Opportunity: Navigating Unpleasant Thoughts and Emotions

Unpleasant sensations, memories, and fears can come up not only in everyday life, but even in meditation. You're not doing it wrong! It's as normal for challenges to come up during meditation as it is at any other time. In this workshop, we'll explore how to turn what can seem like walls into windows of opportunity. You'll learn specific strategies to work with unpleasant experiences in meditation practice. And learning HOW to work with challenges in meditation ultimately builds our tolerance and resilience around suffering in our daily life.

Anxiety

Approximately 33.7% of the general population suffers from an anxiety disorder. Mindfulness changes the way we interpret anxious thoughts and somatic symptoms. This leads to immediate and long-term relief. Learn how. Learn to teach your patients how.

Chronic Pain

The annual cost of treating chronic pain in the US is estimated to be $635 billion. Mindfulness is simple, cost-efficient, and surprisingly effective. It calms our brain’s frenzied and futile response to physical pain signals, thereby relieving the psychological suffering associated with chronic pain. Learn how to guide your patients toward real relief.

Burnout

You work hard. You care. You make a difference. And yet burnout affects approximately half of all health care professionals. While mindfulness can’t change policy, it can tap into wellsprings of compassion, connection and energy. Why you pursued this career in the first place. Learn how to reliably replenish.

Mindfulness also impacts heart functioning, depression, trauma, insomnia, addictions and a host of other symptoms of suffering.

We teach how to apply mindfulness for relief from your specific circumstances.
