Our Story

As a child, I experienced insomnia, near-constant headaches, strange pains and ruminating thoughts — anxiety. A kindly neurologist taught me how to manage these pains by calming my body and directing my attention. I found a way to soothe and move through, not just anxiety, but also many other forms of physical and emotional pain. And then one day, after years of working as a social worker with many people who were suffering, it hit me: “I should be sharing this with others!” So this is what we teach: how to apply the concepts of mindfulness to your specific stressors, pains and conflicts. So you and your clients can experience the same lightness and freedom that I have.

We come to you. We individualize our trainings to meet your specific needs.

Bring mindfulness to life.

Maybe I became a “helper” because of my own suffering, or of those around me. I believed this was the highest calling - to help others. And so, I’ve spent the last 20-odd years working in a jail, in a rehab, in a group home, in community health and most recently in my own private group practice, Chicago Mindful Psychotherapy. As you might guess by its name, we specialize in applying mindfulness to depression, anxiety, pain, anger, and trauma. My clients, my co-workers and my own struggles have been rich, powerful teachers. (As well as a formal certification in the clinical use of mindfulness through the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy.) I am utterly fascinated by how the simple concepts that underpin mindfulness can be both so challenging to live as well as, literally, life-transforming. While mindfulness is certainly not a panacea, understanding how your own mind works allows you freedom and power to shape yourself and your world.

I draw from this wealth of experience and enthusiastic belief in the life-changing power of mindfulness to teach health care practitioners how to make simple principles accessible and specifically applicable. So you can teach your clients and patients. Who can teach their friends and family. So we can all live with more ease.
